If you are newer to learning about marine mammals, this is the class for you. Over the course of 6 weeks you will get introductory lectures from experts on the species frequent the Salish Sea: Southern Resident and Bigg’s killer whales, humpback whales, gray whales, minke whales, porpoises, and seals and sea lions. This is a perfect way to start your journey towards a deeper appreciation for the species we share our marine environment with.
Six ~75 minute virtual sessions with lectures on regional marine mammal species including time for Q&A with the speakers
Classes are held on Zoom at 6:30 to 7:45 PM PST on the following Mondays in 2026:
September 28 - Southern Resident killer whales with Amanda Colbert
October 5 - Bigg's killer whales with Monika Wieland Shields
October 12 - Harbor seals, sea lions & elephant seals with Amanda Colbert
October 19 - Minke whales, porpoises & Pacific white-sided dolphins with Monika Wieland Shields
October 26 - Gray whales with Cindy Hansen
November 2 - Humpback whales with Erin Gless
This is an introductory level class for those who are new to learning about marine mammals of the Salish Sea, so no previous knowledge is necessary! All we ask is that you bring your attention and willingness to learn.
