All smiles this afternoon on our last day on the water for this field trip!
The research team is all smiles this afternoon on our last day on the water for this field trip. After a few days where the weather was passable but the whales weren't vocalizing, then a couple more days where we couldn't get out at all due to weather, everything finally came together.
We followed Js and Ks north up Admiralty Inlet and the seas were calm and clear, the skies were dry, and best of all, the whales were vocalizing like crazy! While we were amazed to have Southern Residents in Puget Sound all 14 days of our trip, they truly saved the best for last and we had our most productive data collection day on our last day out for 2024.
It's been an absolute joy to share these last two weeks on the water in Puget Sound with the research team at the Center for Whale Research and to spend so much time with the Southern Residents. More to come in the days ahead!
